Russia's industrial output grew 8.6% in Jan-Feb - statistics

MOSCOW, March 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's industrial production increased by 8.6% in January-February 2007 year-on-year, the Federal Statistics Service said Friday.

In February industrial production growth was 8.7% against February 2006 and 1.5% against January 2007.

According to statistics, in the period under review mineral production went up 4.3% as compared to the same period last year, the output of processing industries increased 15.7%, while the production and distribution of electricity, gas and water declined 6.6%.

In the same period Russia produced 54.6 million metric tons of coal (up 4.3%), 79.4 million metric tons of oil (583.6 million bbl) (up 4.4%) and 116 billion cubic meters of gas (down 0.2%).

In the first two months of 2007 185 billion kW/h of electricity and 373 million Gcal of heat were produced, down 2.1% and 10.7% year-on-year respectively.

In January-February, the output of meat, including by-products, rose 22.4% against the same period last year, to 365,000 metric tons, sausage production increased 7.9%, to 325,000 metric tons and the output of bread and bakery products decreased 1%, to 1.2 million metric tons.

Automobile production in Russia rose by 18.6%, to 183,000 units, in the first two months of this year.
