1995 banker murder case goes to court

MOSCOW, March 16 (RIA Novosti) - An investigation into the 1995 killing of a Russian banker has been completed and the case will go to trial, Moscow prosecutors said Friday.

Ivan Kivelidi, the board chairman of privately owned Rosbiznesbank, died in August 1995 from poisoning, which forensic specialists say was the result of exposure to a powerful toxic substance smeared on a telephone receiver in his office. His secretary died a few days later, presumably from the same substance.

"The investigation is over and the case has been sent to Moscow's Zamoskvoretsky Borough Court," a source at the Moscow City Prosecutor's Office said.

A man suspected of killing his former boss and his secretary was arrested in Moscow last June after more than a decade on the run.

Investigators say they have collected enough evidence to prove Vladimir Khutsishvili's involvement in the premeditated killing of Kivelidi.

Investigators are alleging he covered the receiver with the lethal substance.
