Russians' incomes up 21.3% in Feb., 5.4 million unemployed

MOSCOW, March 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russians' real disposable incomes increased 21.3% in a month in February 2007, and real wages rose 0.9%, the Russian Federal Statistics Service said in a report Thursday.

In January-February 2007, real average monthly wages rose 17.5%, and real disposable incomes climbed up 12.7%, year-on-year.

In February 2007, the nominal accrued wage per employee was 11,659 rubles ($448) on average, up 2% against January, and 26.4% more than in February 2006.

The per capita income increased 22.3%, to 10,015 rubles ($385) in a month.

The Statistics Service also reported that the number of unemployed rose 2.5%, to 5.4 million in February.

The employment service has so far officially registered 1.7 million unemployed, including 1.5 million receiving unemployment benefit.

As of late February, there were 73.8 million employable age people in Russia, the statistics service said, accounting for 52% of the country's population.

The majority of the employed - 38.1 million, or 55.5% of the total number of the employed - work at large and medium-sized companies.
