"In line with the state defense order, in the period leading up to 2011 more than 20 formations and military units of Russia's Land Forces are to be rearmed," Army General Alexei Maslov said at a meeting with foreign military attaches.
As of January 2007, the Land Forces were 90% armed, Maslov said.
"The provision of formations and military units of the Land Forces with armament and military hardware is not less than 90%. [Provision with] the main armaments - tanks, multiple launch rocket systems [MLRS], field artillery etc. is 100%," Maslov said.
Supply volumes will increase in the next state armament program, which will raise the quality potential of the forces, he said.
Maslov said great attention will be paid to modernizing existing types of armaments and military hardware and creating the scientific basis for a later switch to modern combat methods.
