YEKATIRENBURG, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - Nearly twenty tons of oil have spilled as the result of a pipeline rupture in the Samara Region, on the Volga River, a spokesman for the local emergencies ministry said Monday.

"A leak was detected Sunday afternoon at around 4:15 p.m. local time (3:15 p.m. Moscow time) on the Bobrovka-Kuleshovka pipeline, near Neftegorsk," the spokesman said.

As a result of the rupture, nearly 20 cubic meters, or 17 tons, of oil spilled over an area of some 300 square meters.

The area has been sequestered to prevent the contamination of a nearby river, and clean-up crews are working at the site.
