MOSCOW, April 16 (RIA Novosti) - Inflation in Russia was 3.5% in January-March compared to 5% in the same period last year, the economics minister said Monday.

The prices of goods and services increased 0.2% April 1- 9, against 0.4% in the same period last year, German Gref said.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov last week put inflation figures at 3.4% for the first quarter of the year and at 0.6% for March, comparing to 0.8% in March 2006.

Gref pledged to give complete results and a forecast for the next three years at Thursday's Cabinet meeting.

"We will sum up inflation, GDP and population income indicators," he said.

Russia's industrial production grew 8.4% in the first three months of the year, compared to 3% in the same period last year, the minister said.

Gref said March saw a 7.9% increase in output year-on-year and 1% against February.

He was upbeat about a positive trend in manufacturing sectors, where output rose 12.5% in March and 14.5% in the whole quarter.

Mining industries expanded their output by 3.8% in March and 4.2% in January-March.

Oil production grew 3.9% and 4.2% respectively, while natural gas output was up 1.2% and 0.3%.

Gref said there was a decline in electricity production in the reporting periods, by 96.2% in March and by 94.3% in January-March, which he attributed to weather conditions.
