MOSCOW, April 20 (RIA Novosti) - A four-year-old Russian boy in a Moscow hospital after being hit by a car in Egypt April 16 will not regain consciousness for at least another 10 days, doctors said Friday.

Nikita Lyaskovsky, from Irkutsk in East Siberia, was hit by a car in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada. Accompanied by his parents and Russian medics, he was brought to Moscow suffering from a serious brain injury April 18.

"We do not think he will regain consciousness earlier than in 10 days. We are doing everything to support his health," said Maya Bukhrashvili, chief doctor at the emergency pediatric surgery center.

Bukhrashvili said the boy was in serious condition, but that there was no need for surgery.

Nikita was originally taken to intensive care in a hospital in Hurghada, but the Russian consular department, at his father's request, summoned Russian pediatric surgeons from the well-known Leonid Roshal's brigade, who recommended the boy's transfer to Russia.

Egyptian medics had not allowed the boy's transportation, citing his condition, and insisted he should stay in intensive care for at least another week. They also said Nikita could only be transported in a special plane fitted out with medical equipment.

"At the insistence of the boy's farther, who signed a release form, the Egyptian doctors allowed the transportation of the boy with his parents and Russian medics onboard a chartered plane from Hurghada," a Russian diplomat said.

Egyptian police are investigating into the accident.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, where 6,000 people died and over 30,000 were injured in crashes last year. Experts cite a failure to observe traffic rules and the generally poor condition of cars as the main reasons behind crashes.
