MOSCOW, May 4 (RIA Novosti) - Five people, including a five-year-old child, died in a powerful gas explosion that shook an apartment house in the central Russian region of Ryazan, an emergency official said Friday.
The apparent household gas explosion fully destroyed one entrance to the two-story building in the town of Sarai at about 5 a.m. Moscow time (1 a.m. GMT).
Six of the 18 apartments, where a total of 41 people lived, were destroyed. The survivors have been evacuated. Firefighters are working at the scene, rescuers are clearing the debris.
