Court orders arrest of 2 suspects in Moscow V-E Day terror plot
The Lefortovo court ordered that Umar Batukayev and Ruslan Musayev be placed under arrest pending trial for their alleged involvement in the plotted attack, which, according to Russian security officials, would have involved the detonation of a car bomb.
The two men are charged with conspiring a terrorist act and illegally purchasing and possessing explosive devices.
According to Russia's Federal Security Service, the case was opened May 8 following the discovery of an explosives-laden car during a police raid launched on tipoffs from members of the public as well as intelligence data.
Batukayev and Musayev are part of a terrorist group believed to be behind several terrorist acts committed in Russia's troubled North Caucaus province in recent years. Most of the group's members come from that region.
The court has 30 days to prepare a formal indictment for the detained men.
Two other suspects in the case are yet to be tracked down.
