ST. PETERSBURG, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - A suspect in the killing of a teacher at a Jewish school in St. Petersburg has pleaded guilty to murder charges, but denied his crime was motivated by anti-Semitism, city prosecutors said Tuesday.

Dmitri Nikulinsky, a 22-year-old university student who also taught biology at the school, was found dead in the entrance to his apartment bloc Saturday with multiple stab wounds.

St. Petersburg has seen an upsurge in xenophobia and hate crime lately, so the initial theory was that the teacher's murder had been ethnically motivated. However, the 26-year-old suspect said he had killed Nikulinsky for dating a former girlfriend of his.
