MOSCOW, May 22 (RIA Novosti) - A Boeing 737 passenger plane belonging to GTK Russia air carrier made a safe emergency landing at an airport in western Siberia after experiencing engine failure, a spokesman for Russia's emergencies ministry said Tuesday.

"The aircraft with 29 passengers and eight crew was on a flight from St. Petersburg to Novy Urengoi," Viktor Beltsov said. "The left engine failed during the flight, but the pilots managed to land the aircraft at 7.15. Moscow time (3.15 GMT)."

No injuries have been reported, the official said.

A source in the Transportation Ministry later said that a special commission had been set up to investigate the second incident in the past two weeks involving a Boeing aircraft from the same air carrier.

On May 6, another Boeing-737 aircraft belonging to GTK Russia air carrier with 113 passengers and seven crewmembers on board was en route to Amsterdam from Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg when it had to return to the airport after a guidance system failure.

The plane landed safely at Pulkovo airport and no one was hurt during the emergency landing, the transportation authorities said.
