MOSCOW, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - Armed robbers broke into a bank in West Siberia late on Saturday night, killing a security guard and making off with more than $600,000, a source in the local interior department said Monday.
The haul included 15 million rubles, $10,000, and 10,000 euros, and a large stash of the banks' promissory notes, the source said over the phone. The identities of the criminals have not been established.
In a similar attack on a branch of state-run savings bank Sberbank in the East Siberian city of Chita on May 12, robbers killed two security guards and stole more than 38 million rubles ($1.5 million) in cash, along with gold and silver bullion. Police have been able to detain several suspects in the Chita bank robbery, local prosecutors earlier said.
