Inflation in Russia at 0.6% in May - statistics service -1

MOSCOW, June 5 (RIA Novosti) - Consumer prices in Russia grew 0.6% in May, against 0.5% a year earlier, the country's top statistics body said Tuesday.

The prices of goods rose 0.7%, with food prices growing 1% and non-food prices climbing 0.4% while the prices of paid services provided to households went up 0.5% in May 2007, the State Statistics Service said.

Inflation stood at 4.7% in the first five months of 2007, against 5.9% in the same period last year, the service said.

The government's inflation target for 2007 is 8%. Last year's inflation averaged 9%, down from 10.9% in 2005.

The minimum set of staple foods went up 2.2%, month-on-month, in May 2007 to an average of 1,589.8 rubles (about $61) per month, the service said.
