One Russian Embassy employee was shot dead in an attack in Baghdad on June 3, 2003, and four others were kidnapped. All four are believed to have been executed by an al-Qaeda linked cell.
After negotiating with Iraqi authorities and coalition forces, Russian investigators were allowed to continue their investigations in Baghdad. "For a few weeks in May, investigators for the Prosecutor General's Office... studied investigation papers compiled by authorities in Iraq and obtained copies of the necessary documents and video materials," the prosecutors' statement said.
As a result, investigators established new details concerning the circumstances of the crime, and the people involved in it.
Prosecutors gave no details of their findings, saying only that an agreement had been reached with investigators in Baghdad to continue the investigation.
