MOSCOW, June 7 (RIA Novosti) - One person died and four have been hospitalized following an ammonia gas leak from a fishing trawler in the city of Petropavlosk-Kamchatsky in eastern Russia early Thursday, emergencies services said.
A 37-year-old mechanic died of ammonia poisoning, and four fish processing workers were injured after about two tons of ammonia, used as a refrigerant, leaked into the atmosphere during the night, spokeswoman Olga Mikhailova of the local emergencies services said.
The federal meteorological and environmental watchdog has said there was no health threat for residents of the city. "The situation has returned to normal," the press service said.
The cause of the incident is being investigated.
