MOSCOW, June 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russian nuclear fuel manufacturer TVEL said Thursday its subsidiary in the Urals is planning to double its annual uranium production to 640 metric tons by 2010.

The Dalur company, a TVEL subsidiary in the Kurgan Region, mines uranium using an "ecologically clean" underground well leaching technique. After increasing its production and energy capacity, the company, which was formed in 2001, produced 262 tons of uranium ore in 2006.

Dalur conducts its uranium mining operation at the Dalmatovskoye deposit, which has confirmed reserves totaling over 10,000 tons.

Russia's uranium production accounts for around 8% of global output. Up to 90% of the profit in the country's nuclear sector comes from nuclear fuel, power and service exports, but Russia seeks to import more uranium.

Russia plans to meet 60-70% of its uranium demand domestically by 2015.
