NOVOSIBIRSK, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - Fourteen people have been killed and seven injured after a truck crossed into oncoming traffic causing a road accident in southern Siberia, local traffic police said Saturday.
Ten passengers traveling in a Mercedes minibus returning from a holiday in the Altai mountains and four passengers in a Russian GAZ minibus died instantly, the police said. Five of the survivors are in the hospital with serious injuries.
"Preliminary reports suggest that the accident was caused by the KamAz truck driver who crossed into oncoming traffic," the police said. "The driver has been hospitalized in a serious condition."
Prosecutors have launched an inquiry, and the driver could face up to seven years in jail if found guilty.
