MOSCOW, June 12 (RIA Novosti) - The presidents of China, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Transdnestr and Azerbaijan and the prime ministers of Ukraine and Armenia congratulated Russians Tuesday on the country's state holiday.
June 12 was declared Russian Independence Day in 1991, following the breakup of the Soviet Union. The holiday was later renamed Russia Day.
Moscow police said more than 50,000 people are present at festive events in the city, with about 5,000 police ensuring law and order, adding that no incidents have been registered.
