VLADIVOSTOK, June 19 (RIA Novosti) - Chinese law enforcement officers have freed a Russian woman, who had been abducted China by three men demanding a ransom of $40,000, a Russian police spokesperson said Tuesday.

The woman, a resident of Russia's Far Eastern city of Vladivostok bordering on China, was kidnapped by locals when she arrived on business in the city of Mudanjiang in northeast China. The group contacted her relatives and demanded the ransom.

Russian police contacted Chinese authorities in the Heilongjiang province who mounted an operation to track down the gang. "The gang leader and his two associates were arrested in a local restaurant. After she was released, the Russian woman returned home straight away," the Russian police spokesperson said.

Doctors said the woman was stressed and would need psychological counseling.

This is the second incident involving Russian women in the Heilongjiang province. In February, a Russian woman was stabbed to death and another wounded in the city of Heihe.
