NOVOSIBIRSK, July 9 (RIA Novosti) - A U.S. citizen seriously injured in a head-on collision on the shores of Lake Baikal in southern Siberia Thursday has died in an Irkutsk hospital, a local official said Monday.
The woman, who was not identified, was traveling with a tourist group consisting of another U.S. national, two citizens of Ireland and two residents of Irkutsk. They remain hospitalized with varying injuries.
Local police said the accident occurred near the town of Bolshoye Golousnoye July 5 when a car rammed the minibus the tourists were traveling in. The driver of the tour bus was killed on the spot, and a passenger in the automobile died en route to the hospital.
Early indications are that the driver of the car swerved into the oncoming lane, and police have begun a criminal investigation.
