MOSCOW, July 19 (RIA Novosti) - A suspected participant in an armed attack on the southern Russian city of Budyonnovsk in 1995 that left over 130 people dead has been detained, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said Thursday.

"Idobayev (Sokolov) was directly involved in an armed attack on the Stavropol Territory city of Budyonnovsk in 1995 by the Basayev and Khatuyev gang," the FSB press service said.

The detainee faces 15 years to life imprisonment.

In June 1995, Chechen terrorists seized several buildings, including a hospital, in Budyonnovsk, taking hostage about 2,000 people, including children. More than 130 people were killed and over 400 wounded as a result.

The mastermind, Shamil Basayev, escaped to Chechnya but was killed in the neighboring republic of Ingushetia in 2006 in a special operation.
