VELIKY NOVGOROD, July 23 (RIA Novosti) - Two people were killed when their motorbike crashed into a train at a railroad crossing in northwest Russia, local police said Monday.

The driver, a 39-year-old resident of Velikiy Novgorod, and his passenger, a 32-year-old woman, died immediately Sunday after driving onto the tracks despite the lowered gate and warning signals. No train passengers were injured.

The collision came following two similar railroad crossing accidents in the region earlier this year. A minibus hit a commuter train June 10, injuring two of the minibus passengers, and a man was injured when his car drove into a train May 25.
