The former head of Menatep Group, serving a prison term for fraud in Chita, suffered head and knee injuries in a car crash while being transferred across the Siberian city on July 2.
Lebedev's lawyers requested that the Prosecutor General's Office subject their client to a medical examination and suspend ongoing investigations against Lebedev. Tatyana Rusanova, an investigator at the Prosecutor General's Office, ordered a medical examination but refused to suspend the investigation.
Defense lawyer Igor Sapozhkov said the Chita central court "recognized the decision by investigator Tatyana Rusanova as ungrounded."
Lebedev and his business partner Mikhail Khodorkovsky, former chief executive of bankrupt oil company Yukos, were found guilty of tax evasion and large-scale fraud by a Moscow court in May 2005 and sentenced to nine years in prison. On September 22, the Moscow City Court reduced their terms to eight years.
