GROZNY, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - Three suspects in a series of attacks on federal troops in Chechnya have been arrested in the North Caucasus republic, a local police spokesman said Wednesday.
The source said Interior Ministry patrol officers arrested the three suspected militants, aged 30-32, on Tuesday.
"The three detained men were involved in the destruction of vehicles carrying federal troops in May and June 2007," the spokesman said.
The men were in possession of guns, a Mukha grenade launcher and a home-made explosive device. All were citizens of Grozny, Chechnya's capital, the police spokesman said.
Chechnya was devastated by two military campaigns in 1994-1996 and 1999-2001, after which Moscow significantly scaled down its military presence in the republic. However, sporadic fighting and militant attacks continue in the area.
