TYUMEN, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - A major car accident killed five people, including two children, in western Siberia, a local traffic police source said Wednesday.
A Toyota Avensis and a Toyota Landcruiser collided Thursday on major local highway 133 kilometers (90 miles) from the city of Tyumen. The car's driver presumably fell asleep and drove into oncoming traffic.
The off-road driver and his passenger received various injuries, mostly fractures. The car's driver, 40, and four passengers, including a 10-year-old boy and a six year-old girl, died.
Driving into the opposite lane is one of Russia's most common violations of road safety rules, with 40-50 cases registered daily. Under Russian law, an offender faces a suspension of his or her driver's license from four to six months.
