MOSCOW, October 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and the U.S. have agreed to draft an agreement on the extradition of suspects in criminal investigations, the Investigations Committee of the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said Wednesday.
"The two sides have agreed to entrust their experts with elaborating such an agreement," the committee said in a press release after a meeting between committee chief Alexander Bastrykin and U.S. Ambassador William Burns.
The document said the two parties discussed different forms of cooperation.
"The participants noted an equal understanding of the need for concrete joint moves in the fight against terrorism, money laundering and other crimes," the release said.
It said the U.S. side raised questions relating to the investigation of the murder of Forbes Russia editor Paul Klebnikov and Novaya Gazeta journalist Anna Politkovskaya.
"The U.S. ambassador thanked the Investigations Committee for the work accomplished in investigating these crimes and expressed his readiness to provide assistance in these cases," the press release said.
