ROSTOV-ON-DON, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 153 children have been struck by an outbreak of food poisoning which has hit nurseries in two towns in the Stavropol Territory, southern Russia, local emergencies officials said Friday.
As many as 90 children have been hospitalized with a stomach virus since Wednesday as a result of the outbreak in the towns of Lermontov and Kislovodsk, with 63 receiving outpatient treatment.
A preliminary probe revealed that a possible source of the infection is a fermented milk drink supplied to kindergartens.
A local emergency situations commission will meet later on Thursday to try to determine the source of the food poisoning, which is the fourth incident in the Stavropol Territory in the last three months. To date, over 500 people have been affected from poisoning from contaminated dairy products.
