MOSCOW, October 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Elena Dementieva will meet world No. 7 Serena Williams of the U.S. in the final of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, after both players clinched straight-set victories on Saturday.
Dementieva, ranked No. 14, beat fellow Russian Dinara Safina 6-1, 6-0 in just over an hour in the semis, to reach her third Kremlin Cup final.
Former world No. 1 Williams, the reigning Australian Open champion, struggled in the first set against top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, but sailed through the second to win 7-6 (2), 6-1.
Williams, aged 26, last played in the Kremlin Cup 10 years ago.
In the men's competition later today, Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, the top seed and defending champion, will play Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic for a place in the final. In the other semi, France's Paul-Henri Mathieu of France will meet Germany's Michael Berrer.
