Russian pensioner dies after rigging his house with bombs

22:12 06/11/2007
NIZHNY NOVGOROD, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - A 69-year-old Russian man who rigged his house with bomb traps died on Tuesday after setting off one of the devices, local police said.

The pensioner's body was found in his home in the village of Piskuny in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, with multiple injuries.

"On arriving at the venue, investigators could not start searching the scene because the wooden house owned by the deceased was stuffed with improvised explosive devices," a police officer said.

He said bomb disposal experts found trip wire attached to every window in the house, and even the man's coat hanger was mined.

Investigators suggested the blast victim may have been drunk, and stepped into one of his tripwires, triggering the explosion. Neighbors said the old man suffered from a mental disorder and had an alcohol problem.

On searching a flat also owned by the deceased, police found another two explosive devices.
