"It is well known that our goal is to complete talks on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization by the end of this year, and the U.S. supports us in this," said Igor Neverov, head of the Foreign Ministry's North America department.
The official added that U.S. negotiators were now receiving the necessary signals from their leadership, and as a result were avoiding the politicization of the issue.
Russia has been seeking WTO membership since the early 1990s, and needs to complete bilateral talks with those WTO members still having trade issues with Moscow, as well as finishing multilateral discussions within the WTO Working Party of 50 nations.
Neverov said Russian-U.S. economic relations were on the rise and bilateral trade had doubled over the last five years.
"It amounts to $25 billion, which is a very high rate," he said.
However, the official said Russia's share in U.S. commodity turnover was still rather small, placing Russia 26th on the list of the country's trade partners.
