CHELYABINSK, November 13 (RIA Novosti) - The winners of the 22nd International Glinka Vocal Competition have been announced in Chelyabinsk, Vladimir Makarov, the regional minister for culture, said Tuesday.

"The winners were selected after the third and last round of the competition, which took place at the local Glinka Theater on November 12," he said.

The winning female vocalists included Oksana Volkova from Belarus, who took first prize; Olesya Gordeyeva from Chelyabinsk, in second place; Maria Gorelova from Moscow, third; and Yevgenia Dumina from Moscow, fourth.

The best male vocalist was not selected this year, because the jury said none of the competitors was worthy of the first prize. "The second place went to Aras Agadjayan from Yekaterinburg; the third to Adiya Sainbayar from Mongolia; and the fourth to Leonid Kuchumov from Chelyabinsk," Makarov said.

The closing ceremony, including the awarding of the prizes and a gala show, will take place today, the official added.

Chelyabinsk hosted the 22nd International Glinka Vocal Competition between November 3 and 12. Over 60 participating vocalists came from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Tatarstan and other countries. The young vocalists' competition has been held regularly since 1960. The competition jury is headed by Irina Arkhipova, People's Artist of the Soviet Union.
