VELIKY NOVGOROD, December 6 (RIA Novosti) - A Russian sailor went on a mystery tour when he stopped for a beer in Khabarovsk, Russia's Far East, and came to in a hospital 8,600 kilometers (5,344 miles) away, a police spokesman said Thursday.
The 35-year-old man was found by police in a small village in the Novgorod Region in northwest Russia with head injuries and suffering from acute alcoholic poisoning. He was taken to a local hospital.
The sailor told police that he planned to travel from Russia's Far East to European Russia, but the last thing he can remember is making a short stop in Khabarovsk to have a beer.
The distance between Khabarovsk and Veliky Novgorod is 8,667 kilometers or over 160 hours by car.
Police said the man could have been attacked and thrown from his car.
An investigation is underway.
