MOSCOW, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia ultranationalist and Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said on Tuesday he needs $15 million for his presidential election campaign.

On Wednesday, Zhirinovsky and Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov will become the first party nominees to be officially registered for the March 2, 2008 presidential elections by the Central Election Commission (CEC).

"I need at least $15 million: $5 million for street advertising, $5 million for commercials and $5 million for printed products," Zhirinovsky told a news conference in Moscow.

The politician said he planned to collect the necessary sum through "personal requests."

A total of six contenders remain in the presidential race after the CEC barred seven independent candidates on Saturday.

Aside from Zhirinovsky and Zyuganov, the other nominee from a party with seats in parliament is the ruling United Russia party's nominee, Dmitry Medvedev.

The CEC has already registered the action groups of two independent candidates - former Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, who heads the Russian People's Democratic Union, and Democratic Party of Russia leader Andrei Bogdanov.

These candidates, plus SPS party candidate Boris Nemstov, will have to provide at least 2 million signatures in support of their nominations before January 16 in order to receive permission to run in the presidential elections.
