MOSCOW, January 17 (RIA Novosti) - Over 33,000 people, including 1,000 children, died in 233,000 road accidents in Russia in 2007, the traffic safety department at the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
A total of 1,116 children died in car crashes in 2007 and more than 24,000 were injured. The number of accidents involving children totaled 23,851.
In 2006, over 29,000 people were killed in a total of 229,140 road accidents.
Every day some 100 people in Russia, with a population of about 142 million, die in road accidents.
