YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK (Far East), February 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has informed the NATO fleet that a Russian ship was seized by pirates off the coast of Somalia, the Russian Far Eastern rescue center said on Sunday.

"The ship was seized by pirates near Somalia on February 1 at 1:17 p.m. Greenwich Time," the center said.

According to the center, the ship, Svitser Korsakov, had six people on its board: two Brits and four Russians.

The ship was sailing to the Russian Far Eastern island of Sakhalin through Singapore, the center said.

The Russian tug boat is already 300 miles from the place of its seizure, the center said.

"They [pirates] are driving the ship to the south, to the equator, most probably, to the port of Mogadishu," the rescue center said.
