MAKHACHKALA, February 12 (RIA Novosti) - Three gunmen and a member of the security services were killed early on Tuesday in a special operation in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan, local police said.
The special services officer who died was the head of a regional Federal Security Service (FSB) department. A police officer was also wounded in the operation, a spokesman said.
In a separate incident in Russia's troubled North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia, special services discovered a deserted militant base in the forest in the Sunzhensky district. "The body of an unknown male with gunshot wounds was found," the spokesman said.
Officers also discovered a grenade, detonators and ammunition. An investigation is underway.
