Soldier injured in attack on convoy in Chechnya
"An explosion went off on the Petropavlovkoye highway in Grozny on Monday, when a military convoy of eight trucks was moving by. One serviceman was wounded," the official said, adding that the soldier is being treated in hospital.
Police are trying to identify those behind the attack.
In Nazran, in the republic of Ingushetia which borders the troubled Chechen Republic, unknown gunmen fired grenades at a police checkpoint late on Monday, but no one was injured.
Sporadic terrorist attacks and militant clashes are common in Chechnya, although the active phase of the Kremlin campaign to fight separatists and terrorists is over. Violence often spills over into neighboring North Caucasus republics, including Ingushetia and Daghestan.
