VLADIVOSTOK, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - Inspectors have discovered tons of banned toxic chemicals in an abandoned warehouse in the Primorye Territory, in Russia's Far East, a spokesman for the local agricultural watchdog said on Wednesday.

The depot containing banned pesticides was found 150 meters away from the village of Sokolchi in the Lazovsky district.

"The building is dilapidated, its doors, roof and even parts of the walls are missing," said Vitaly Salenko, a spokesman for the regional department of Rosselkoznadzor. "Approximately 15 tons of different toxic substances were lying around all mixed up."

From time to time, rain swept the poisonous mixture to a nearby river, he added.

Watchdog officials are currently trying to establish who is responsible for the dangerous chemicals.
