In the first accident, a Toyota car collided with a Kamaz truck near the East Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk, killing three women and a child. The car driver and a five-month-old baby were rushed to hospital in a serious condition. The truck driver received minor injuries.
"It is too early to say who is responsible and what was the cause [of the accident]," said Mikhail Chernikov, a chief at the regional traffic police department. "One thing I can say for sure - it's a very gruesome crash."
The same day, at an unmanned level crossing in the Kemerovo Region in southwest Siberia, a Toyota RAV-4 off-roader, traveling at a speed of 55 kmph (34 mph) rammed into a railcar, derailing it. The Toyota driver and his three passengers died, the railcar passengers were uninjured.
An accident investigation commission has been set up to look into the cause of the crashes.
