MOSCOW, May 7 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Cabinet formally resigned after Dmitry Medvedev was sworn in as Russia's new president on Wednesday.
The procedure was in line with the Russian Constitution. After the Cabinet's resignation, the president has two weeks to propose a candidacy for the prime minister's post to the lower house of parliament.
Former Russian president Vladimir Putin is expected to become premier on May 8.
This is the eleventh resignation of a Cabinet in Russia since the split up of the U.S.S.R in 1991, and the fifth due to a presidential inauguration.
Forty-two-year-old Medvedev was nominated as a presidential candidate by the ruling United Russia party and three other smaller pro-Kremlin parties in December. He subsequently won the March 2 presidential polls by a landslide.
