MOSCOW, May 12 (RIA Novosti) - A plane carrying Russians, who were evacuated from Lebanon following recent armed clashes in the country, landed at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport Monday, Russia's national air carrier Aeroflot said.
According to media reports, the Syrian-backed Islamist group Hezbollah took control of the Muslim half of Beirut on Friday after three days of fighting with pro-government militia. At least 20 people have reportedly been killed and over 50 wounded in the worst internal clashes since the 1975-90 civil war.
Twenty four Russians, who were unable to leave Lebanon after the airport closed, arrived Sunday at the border with neighboring Syria and were then flown back to Russia.
