KHABAROVSK, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - Two people were killed on Wednesday in an apartment explosion in the Russian Far East city of Khabarovsk, which may have be caused by a bomb, a local police spokesman said.

The blast went off at around 2:00 p.m. local time (03.00 GMT), killing the apartment's owner and his friend.

The spokesman told RIA Novosti: "The explosion went off in a flat on the ninth storey, blowing out the windows and balcony window frames, and damaging windows in neighboring flats."

The cause of the blast is not yet known, but investigators believe an explosive device could have gone off, he said. Bomb experts are now examining the flat owner's car parked outside the building.
