ST. PETERSBURG, May 29 (RIA Novosti) - Russian police have detained 20 people suspected of being members of an organized criminal group involved in controlling the illegal drug market in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, a police spokesman said.
"According to police information, the group members controlled up to 70% of the illegal drug trade in the region," the spokesman said.
The group is believed to have sold around 2 kilograms (4.4 pounds) of drugs per day.
The police operation was first launched in November last year.
