Gazprom to build gas pipelines, generating facilities in Africa
NNPC's director Abubakar Yaradua and Gazprom's CEO Alexei Miller "discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including the establishment of a joint venture for producing oil and gas, and utilizing associated gas, and the construction of electricity generating facilities."
The Nigerian company also proposed Gazprom participate in the construction of a gas pipeline from Africa through the Sahara desert and Mediterranean Sea to Europe.
"The Nigerian party expressed interest in Gazprom's taking part as a partner in the construction project for a trans-Saharan gas pipeline," the Russian company said in a statement.
Nigeria is one of the largest hydrocarbon producers in Africa with confirmed deposits of natural gas over 5.2 trillion cubic meters and annual production of liquefied gas of 22 million tons.
