Southwest Siberia coal mine accident leaves 7 miners with burns
"The accident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. local time (11:30 GMT) on Sunday at the Voroshilov mine in the town of Prokopyevsk in the Kemerovo Region, when explosive works caused a methane leak," the administration said.
"There are no fatalities or damage. However, seven people received burns of varying degrees," the administration said, adding that the burns were not life-threatening and that the miners were receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The Voroshilov mine and other mines in the Kuznetsk coal basin, or Kuzbass, in the Kemerovo Region will soon undergo safety inspections under an agreement recently reached between regional governor Aman Tuleyev and the country's industrial safety regulator Rostekhnadzor, the administration said.
