MOSCOW, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and the EU have agreed to cooperate on seven border area development programs, worth a total of over 600 million euros, the Russian regional development minister said on Monday.

"These seven programs will for the first time be funded on a parity basis by Russia and the European Union, as well as by European and Russian border regions," Dmitry Kozak said.

He said the Russian federal budget and the EU budget would provide 119 million euros apiece, while the rest of the funds would be supplied by the administrations of the respective border areas.

The programs encompass several spheres, including the social and the economic, and are designed to boost economic development.
