MOSCOW, June 14 (RIA Novosti) - A man was arrested in Penza, central Russia, after police discovered 24 kg (53 lbs) of explosives and specialist bomb-making literature, a police source told RIA Novosti on Saturday.
Police made the discovery after an explosion occurred in woodland. Experts said the blast was caused by fire extinguishers packed with explosives. No one was hurt in the blast.
"During an operation police detained a Penza resident, who works as a computer programist. Police discovered 24 kg of explosives, the same amount used in the forest explosion, during a search of his garage," the source said.
In the suspect's apartment police recovered explosive components, two empty fire extinguishers and specialist bomb-making literature, he added.
A criminal case has been launched.
