Russia's fixed capital investment grows 15% to $27.7 bln in May

MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's fixed capital investment grew 15.3% in May, year-on-year, to 655.8 billion rubles ($27.7 billion), the country's top statistics body said on Monday.

Russia's State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said fixed capital investment in Russia grew 18.9%, year-on-year, in January-May 2008.

Real household incomes increased 7.2% in May and 9.4% in January-May 2008, year-on-year, Rosstat said.

Average monthly wages grew 31.8% in May to 17,034 rubles ($718), Rosstat said.

Unemployment calculated in accordance with the methodology of the International Labor Organization fell 3.4% to 4.8 million as of late May 2008, month on month, and accounted for 6.4% of the economically active population. At the same time, the number of jobless was up 7.7% compared with the same period last year, Rosstat said.

Russia's economically active population stood at an estimated 75.3 million people as of late May or about 53% of the country's total population, Rosstat said.
