KRASNOYARSK, July 2 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 120 people in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in East Siberia have been diagnosed with yersiniosis, a bacterial stomach infection, a spokeswoman for the local consumer safety regulator said.

A total of 12 new cases have been registered since Monday.

"Ninety-six people, including 93 children, have been admitted to hospital, "Natalya Krasnopeyeva told RIA Novosti.

The first outbreak of the disease occurred in the Solnechny summer camp on June 20. By last Wednesday, a total of 74 people had been hospitalized.

A total of 24 children from the Shaktyor summer camp in the Krasnoyarsk Region have also diagnosed with yersiniosis.

Measures to prevent the spread of the disease have been introduced in all childcare facilities in the region. All meals with raw vegetables have been banned, as raw cabbage is being considered as a likely cause of the outbreak.

A total of 17 children between the ages of three and six have hospitalized from a local kindergarten. Cases have also been registered in a nursery and an orphanage in the region.

Children infected with yersiniosis usually recover within a few days without treatment, but complications including the spread of the bacteria to the bloodstream can occasionally occur.
