The tragedy occurred as a 16-year-old male, who was with three other friends, walked on the rail track. He did not hear a train approaching and one of his friends, a 14-year-old girl, dragged him off the tracks and into the path of another freight train traveling in the other direction.
"The 14-year-old ran onto the tracks and dragged the teenagers onto the other track. They were struck by an oncoming freight train," the press release said.
This area is a particularly dangerous stretch of track due to a bend, which means it is difficult to see approaching trains. The teenagers did not hear the second train's signal due to the noise from the approaching train.
Last week a similar accident occurred in Novosibirsk, when a couple were struck by a train as they kissed on the tracks. The woman finally saw the train approaching and pushed the man away from the tracks, but she had no time to escape and was killed instantly.
